A team-signed cricket bat owned & used by Hedley Verity during Yorkshire's 1939 County Championship season, signed in ink by Sellars, Sutcliffe, Bowes, Yardley, Gibbs, Verity, Wood, Smales, Mitchell, Barber, Hutton & Leyland; sold with a letter of provenance from the current vendor; & a related press cutting (3) footnote the vendor's letter confirms that Hedley Verity submitted this bat to a Yorkshire CCC fund-raising raffle at the end of the 1939 season. The winner gave the bat to the Headmaster of Rishworth School for presentation to the best performing pupil at cricket. This pupil was the present vendor, who had the best batting average. It has remained in his possession to this day. The vendor intends to distribute the sale proceeds to local charities in the Halifax area.
