The Prince of Wales's Prize for Swimming, Savoy School, London, a gold medal with ribbon & original case of issue inscribed PRESENTED TO W.J. COYSH, 1880 footnote Savoy School, attached to the Savoy Chapel, was founded by John of Gaunt as part of the Savoy Palace (burnt down in the Peasant's Revolt of 1381). The school educated boys for the chapel choir. The royal connection remains to this day, the Savoy Chapel being a private chapel for the Queen. The school was demolished shortly after the date of this medal and the Savoy Hotel was built on the site.
