Billy Meredith: a red Wales international cap dated 1908, with embroidered white dragon and inscribed F.A.W., 1908, damage This cap was awarded to the legendary Manchester United player Billy Meredith for his two appearances for Wales in 1908. These were the games against England at Wrexham on 16th March and Ireland at Aberdare on 11th April. Meredith, who has been described as the first superstar of soccer, won a total of 48 Welsh caps between seasons 1894-95 and 1919-20.
