A cameo commemorating the 19th century boxer Tom Sayers, carved with a portrait in profile & inscribed TOM SAYERS, CHAMPION OF ENGLAND, BORN PIMLICO, BRIGHTON, MAY 1826, HT. 5FT 8 1/2IN., FT.WT. 10ST. 10LB., RECEIVED CHAMPIONS BELT, JUNE 22 1856, length 9.5cm., 3 3/4in. footnote Tom Sayers was born at Pimlico 25th May 1826. He was one of England's most renowned champions and was particularly famed for his fight with John C. Heenan, 1860, the first international white heavyweight title bout.
